DYW Live Space Week 2023

As part of World Space Week, DYW Live has live webinars taking place on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th October. The theme this year is ‘Space and Entrepreneurship’ so we’ll be bringing along two Scottish Space companies on the Thursday to talk about how and they they’ve set up their space businesses in Scotland. These talks will last 30 minutes and will provide plenty of opportunity for learners to ask questions so please have them think in advance!

On the Friday morning we’ve partnered with Tech We Can and Ada.Scot for a primary assembly focusing on the technology used in Space which will last 45 minutes.

All sessions are free to attend. Sessions will also be recorded and available on this webpage afterwards.

Wednesday 4th October

SaxaVord Spaceport is developing a vertical launch site for rockets up in Unst, Shetland. These rockets will be used to deliver satellites into orbit around the Earth. Bryden will talk about how the company began, what SaxaVord do and why this is happening in Shetland of all places!

Thursday 5th October

Join Derek from Skyrora to learn about Space & Entrepreneurship. Derek will be covering why their CEO founded Skyrora, why they chose Scotland for their headquarters, why there is a market gap in micro launch for small satellites (and what that is!) and finally for an overview of their most important milestones.

Friday 6th October

Delivered in partnership with DYW Live, Tech We Can and Ada.Scot, Becky will highlight the role technology plays in helping us to explore space – and also show some of the careers within the space industry that students could pursue in the future. Becky will also set the children an optional follow up creative challenge.

This online event content is ideal for a P4 – P7 assembly, but you can also join as a class, or even from home.
