The Data Lab

The Data Lab’s mission is to help Scotland maximise value from data and lead the world to a data powered future. We believe that collaboration is the key to unlocking data’s potential. Scotland’s thriving data science community is already proving that meaningful innovation happens when industry, data scientists, academia and the public sector work together and share expertise, ideas and approaches. And by bringing together people from all sectors, we can make sure we are applying data science responsibly and building a future where data benefits everyone.

The Data Lab staff are more than 65% female and we champion diversity and act with integrity in everything that we do. Our annual Data Fest always has a gender-balanced speakers list. Our CEO is Gillian Docherty, OBE. Nine of our female staff are mentors to female STEM students in the STEM Aspire 2021-22 programme. We also help Scotland’s workforce to build the industry-ready skills they need to tackle tomorrow’s challenges and apply the latest developments in data science and AI. Data and Data Science is booming and there is a real shortage of people with the necessary skills. Companies are desperately looking for smart data professionals.

To date The Data Lab have funded more than 600 Data Science MSc students many of whom have been people changing careers. Please visit our website – https://www.thedatalab.com/ – to find out much more.
