Imposter Syndrome

Have you ever felt as though you’re a bit of a fraud – as though you achieved what you did through luck, not merit? This is imposter syndrome. It’s not just you. Even the most successful women have admitted to feeling it. And it’s certainly something many women working in STEM have experienced.

In this video from ENUSEC (Edinburgh Napier University Security Society), Stella explains how, in software development, it’s easy to focus on what you don’t know, to see a lack of experience as a lack of intelligence which can fuel your feelings of inadequacy. When there are already so few women in tech, that’s a real problem.

Here, Stella explains what we can do about it – and it starts by turning those negative feelings round, accepting imposter syndrome and using it to fuel your growth. You could even use it to help others in the same shoes as you.
